Four realistic potential signings for Newcastle
Newcastle United's big money takeover has caused them to be linked with a host of potential big name signings.
However, not all of them are realistic given Newcastle's current position in the league and unlikelihood of being involved in Europe next year.
Former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes there are a handful of players that Newcastle could sign in January, from the Premier League, who would be both talented and realistic.
James Tarkowski (Burnley)
The English centre back is valued at 25 million euros by Transfermarkt.
"He will get on the edge of the box, stick his head where it hurts, and defend. It's a dream for a coach," says Merson.
His contract ends in June, so he could arrive for fee.
Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)
With game time limited at Manchester United, and the 2022 World Cup coming up next year, Lingard is desperate for first team football, something that Newcastle could provide.
Like Tarkowski, Lingard's contract expires in the summer and could arrive on a free.
Dele Alli (Tottenham)
The midfielder had a tough spell with Jose Mourinho but is back in favour under Nuno Espirito Santo.
He is tied down to a contract at Tottenham until 2024 and chairman Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, and so this one might not be as easy for Newcastle to arrange.
James Maddison (Leicester)
The England midfielder has a deal with Leicester until 2024 and despite being very much part of Brendan Rodgers' plans, he is not a guaranteed starter.
The fact that the World Cup is around the corner, and after having missed out on a Euro 2020 spot, Maddison could be looking for a new home where he is guaranteed minutes.
