UEFA Nations League: Germany vs France ends in a draw

At the opening of the newly founded UEFA Nations League, the German national team has missed a victory against world champions France. The 67.485 spectators in the sold-out Allianz Arena saw a long time defensive play in the 0-0 draw, initially without great opportunities on both sides.

In the second half, Joachim Löw's team had more opportunities and was closer to the victory. Germany will meet Peru in a friendly game in three days, while the Equipe Tricolore will host the second group match of the Nations League against the Netherlands on Sunday.

"It was important for us that we show a lot of commitment and are aware of the situation. Up front we did not play as free as in our best times. In the end, we noticed a small fitness advantage over the French and started another final offensive. We could have even won, "summed up Thomas Müller.

In the first international match after the World Cup in Russia, coach Loew relied on six Bayern players in his initial formation: In the 4-1-4-1 system Mats Hummels and Jérôme Boateng formed the central defense in front of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Joshua Kimmich started on the six, Leon Goretzka and Thomas Müller played before in the midfield row.

Didier Deschamps used team that had started in the winning World Cup final against Croatia except the injured goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
