Kimi Raikkonen to join Sauber in swap with Charles Leclerc
Kimi Raikkonen will not drive at the side of Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari in 2019. The Iceman will move to Sauber and to new teammate Marcus Ericsson. In return, Charles Leclerc changes to Scuderia.
Even at the race weekend in Monza, the rumors were increasing that Kimi Räikkönen will not drive at Ferrari in the upcoming season. Under the old Ferrari president, Sergio Marchionne, Charles Leclerc had signed a contract that assured him of a place next to Sebastian Vettel.
So far, the last World Champion in Ferrari
Raikkonen drives since 2014 for the Italian team, with whom he won the 2007 World Cup title. He is still the last driver who won the title for the Italians.
His team-mate Sebastian Vettel had spoken out several times for the 20-time Grand Prix winner. Raikkonen had in the past years mostly joined in the role of the helper for the German and this year with good performances for himself. Nevertheless, Ferrari decided against a further contract extension. Even an online petition from Ferrari fans was unsuccessful.
